About John Flower

"Photography is painting with light" remarks John Flower. "But, of course one has to consider composition, exposure, proper focus, clarity of subject matter, and one's purpose for the photograph." All of the elements must fall into place for "the perfect photograph." According to his many admirers, he has accomplished this many times during his photographic career.

With an eye for singular simplicity, John has achieved memorable photographs of many of the most exquisite creatures from Florida to Alaska. Observers are treated to oversized images that beg to be approached and studied. His photographs never fail to treat the soul with detailed display of nature's majesty. A fascination with wildlife has become a way of life for John Flower.

His love of nature is shared with his wife Joan. Together they have led an enthusiastic life of gathering "the perfect image." Through a series of lectures and slide shows at camera clubs, Audubon Society, Sierra Club and NANPA, John shares images he has gathered from this travels. His work is frequently seen at various art festivals from the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina to Miami, Florida.

John graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in biological sciences and later received a Degree in Dentistry. For forty-two years he practiced dentistry in Englewood, Florida. His career and his interest in nature photography competed for his time and after studying photography at Sarasota Technical Institute and later at Hilton Leech Studio, he reluctantly retired from his practice to concentrate on his second career, photography.

Many awards have graced his work, including Best of Show at Hilton Leech Studio and five cover photographs for Wild Bird and Florida Wildlife. But all his many admirers really care about is the assurance that he and Joan are planning new adventures that will bring back stunning images to enjoy.

For John, "It's always the right time to capture "the perfect photograph!"
